Black-Owned Pet Companies
It is always a great time to splurge on your fur baby. Pet parents are constantly on the hunt for new toys, accessories, treats, and food for their pets. As pet parents, it can be convenient to shop at large retailers; however, it is also important to seek out and support independent brands and retailers. Within the pet industry, there are a handful of black-owned brands and retailers. We’ve compiled a list of black-owned brands that are making an impact in the pet industry. They are discussed and linked below. It is important to support black-owned brands during Black History Month and throughout the entire year.

Ava Dorsey started her company at just thirteen years old. Her pet treats are organic with all-natural limited ingredients. Ava’s Pet Palace carries dog and cat treats along with pet accessories. Ava is also the first participant in BSM Partners’ Young Entrepreneur Mentorship Program.

Renaldo Webb founded Pet Plate with a mission to make better food for dogs so that they can live longer, healthier, and happier lives with their families. He founded the company in 2016, with a unique model for pet food direct to consumers. It is frozen food formulated in collaboration with a Board-Certified Veterinary Nutritionist®, Dr. Renee Streeter.

Sasha Nune’s company, Bark Organix sells baked-to-order vegan dog treats. She also carries dog toys, accessories, and apparel. They create unique custom woodcraft dog tags, leash hangers, and more. Currently, they are moving their bake shop from the east coast to the west coast. It will reopen in March 2023. Their craft shop is open during this time.

Phyllis Whittaker is the founder of LaVa` Pooch Boutique. LaVa` Pooch Boutique provides high quality handmade and affordable products for dogs and cats. Her products are cute and allow you to dress your pet for any occasion. She carries apparel, bowls, feeders, carriers, and treats. They have a shop based in the Middle Tennessee area.

The bowl is a two-part system that is easy to clean. The bowl encourages pets to eat healthier by using the secret lower compartment as a location to store foods that your pet desires. Foods that they crave but should not be eating. The upper bowl is where your pet’s food is located. The pets can smell the food in the lower compartment which encourages them to eat the food that is healthy for them in the bowl. It comes in two sizes with many color combinations.

Rachel Jones, the founder of Trill Paws. Trill Paws has exceptional pet accessories. Their pet tags, collars, and leashes. Rachel combines her love for animals with pop culture. The pet tags are current with popular memes, emojis, and trends. Add a little spice to your pet’s tags and collars.
